Way more ecchi than I thought.
I’m not fully convinced this anime is for me. The idea of Medaka already being devoted to religion at such a young age 🤨
For a moment, I thought, he’s either gay or just not attracted to her. Which are both completely fine and would be more interesting plot.
Turns out he is attracted to her, but he’s just forcing himself to avoid her.
Is there more to this story?
So, it’s the story of a narcissistic (actually, very narcissistic) and childish girl who’s upset because she’s not getting the attention she thinks she deserves?
Sort of, but not really.
She’s desperately insecure, inexperienced and naive, and surprisingly sweet, and the whole narcissistic school idol thing is a front that’s going to come crashing down.
A lot of narcissistic traits also appear within codependent people, she’s probably codependent?
Maybe it’s my fault for expecting a fundamentally different anime, but the entire time I kept thinking about how much better this would be if our male lead actually didn’t like our female lead at all - if he was actually impervious to her charms and she had to learn to be a decent person and engage with him on his terms in order to get him to warm up to her. Instead, I was left wondering if there’s anything that would motivate her to change, because wow she’s spoiled and egotistical. It seems like this is just a setup to generate ecchi scenes where the audience can imagine what it’s like to be sexually harassed by a hot girl, which is very much not for me. Still, the jokes did often land and it was fairly engaging (though also irritating), so I give the premiere a 3/5. I won’t be returning, though, lol.
