There’s no world where they’re safe if trump puts himself in a position where he can punish anyone with impunity, because he views even the smallest slights as a declaration of war. I suspect they also may be banking on dementia to get rid of him if necessary. Though Trump seems to have gone with the Vance doctrine to try and prevent that.
