I’ve finally started at the new job. Let me know if you’re having trouble with your employer, I can send them an email that should scare them into shape.

I’m working for the sort of government department departments wouldn’t want to hear from, as long as they don’t dig too deep and look at my job title

Nah. It’ll be alright. We don’t generally go backwards. We go at a snails pace forward unless it’s a pay rise for pollies then it’s all speed ahead.

        We don’t generally go backwards.

This is generally true. Except for the destruction of medicare, loss of local manufacturing industry, no taxation on our mineral resources, expensive and half useless universities and no consequences for government corruption

Was pretty fucked up how close the votes were on this matter in South Australia recently - I mean what the fuck, surely that isn’t representative of how Australians really view the matter, but I realise more and more how out of touch I am

Oh joy. Impending major restructuring at my workplace. No redundancies, more like the drive-the-people-remaining-to-breaking-point strategy.

My 11th year may end up being my last, time to dust off the resume and get the hell out of here :| At least I hit my LSL eligibility beforehand… :\

have you taken LSL yet? I’d take it, disappear for a few months then take the redundancy they offer when you get back.

The LSL is banked with the intention of just taking the cash when I leave, on top of the 7 weeks annual leave I’ve also got sitting there.

They’re adamant there will be no redundancies, without coming out and saying it they’re definitely trying for reduction through attrition.

        See what happens I guess.

As @tinybreak infers, they may be trying to get people to leave so that they don’t have to payout redundancies.

If you take your LSL and AL, you can bypass all the issues. When you come back you will either be invaluable to them and be able to get a payrise, or they would have decided to issue redundancies after all and you can cash-in again. It is a gamble though.

It is also how biased the US electoral system is to maintain the Status Quo.

Every time the Republicans get in, the cripple democracy a little bit at a time. When the Democrats get in, they don’t do anything to roll back the damage.

It has finally come to the Endgame for US Democracy.

All we can do is make sure that our elected officials are aware that it is not something that we want in Australia.

USA has been going down the toilet for some time, and the turds getting bigger.

I’m gonna switch off the US crap and focus on our local (milder) shitshow.

thinking on it I am not surprised

for 100 years the press and influencers have been making race an issue as a distraction to class , money and opportunity issues ( to stop the working class uniting , and yes, race is an issue )

the working class have genuine grievances and want a voice, sadly trump says he is their voice ( even tho that’s a lie )

they don’t want to hear more race issues

        we need unity

I don’t disagree, but the GOP and Trump have not been the voice of the working class. The fact that enough people have been convinced that they are, is just sad.

This election was also about women issues, and that fell on deaf ears.

The media has a lot of responsibility for this shit show.

the press are either cowards or love the money the drama of trump brings

in the meantime the independent voices in the media are getting shut down

just look at the drama of trying to bring this sub on lemmy under “control”

Yeah the whole ‘fairness’ thing is a load of crap. With the election one side (generally the leftish leaning one) has to be perfect and spotless, meanwhile the other side might a slap on the wrist over something terrible.

One reason I love the ABC and SBS here. The only reason they appear to lean ‘left’ is because they report facts and don’t favour either party, generally. It’s just one side of politics tends to be shittier than the other.

Just saw someone talk about a republican house, senate and presidency altogether as a good thing.

Compared it to Obama. Obama had no interest in dictatorship. Republicans meanwhile keep getting real excited about Hitler.

So there’s now literal children buying anti-aging products like retinol and there’s a hair disclosing spray so women can completely defuzz their whole faces?

People are getting preventative Botox and giving themselves gastroparesis by using Ozempic and 20 year olds are either removing the fat from their cheeks or getting fillers? Celebrities with slightly crooked teeth are getting full veneers or caps?

Earlier periods of history got a bad reputation for their rigid beauty standards and rightfully so but I feel like it’s all much more out of control now because internet. Modern beauty standards are insane.

Screw that I’m crawling back under my rock

I really hope I don’t get scapegoated over this.

My cat’s heart isn’t working well and he doesn’t have a great prognosis, but he’s well and happy in himself and I’m focusing on that. We’ll be ok.

I’ve just ordered takeaway for the first time in yonks. Fried goodness is now on the way to me and in the meantime I’ve poured a glass of wine. I will enjoy it and not wallow.

I used to think of the first weekend in November as the time to put decorations up. But then we had a kid born at the end of November. So we usually wait for his birthday, now.
