regardless X on an xbox style controller would be “use item” or switch between twohand on a Nintendo style controller. There is no common controllerscheme where it would be dodge.

Ah good ole’ “You really care about this” as an attempt to discredit an opposing argument. Can’t let them know we’ve run out of ideas to support our failing point of view!

I mean, I am too. The joke doesn’t make sense as it’s written, but it would if there’s a different game that uses X to backstep.

There are TONS of games that use X as a dodge button. Just because the big game dev, fromsoft, use another button for roll, doesn’t mean no game does. The joke isn’t about what button you press, it’s about getting someone to press literally any button that would mess them up in a normally safe situation.

Nobody said they didn’t. I’m saying I don’t know what game this meme is about.

But since there’s TONS of examples, feel free to give us some.

Just off the top of my head, God of war either defaults to it or has the option of X/O, it’s a common choice in the actioney ff games, etc.

Tbf, I thought the exact same thing. B/O would be the right input for dodge/backstep in all From’s Souls games, including Bloodborne and Elden Ring.

These people are clearly incapable of separating the joke from reality. Who cares what button is being pressed. The joke is the same even if you put some hieroglyphics in place of it.

Is this like an autism thing?

Be it PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo, the right-most face button is the only one that is not X on any of them.

But what if I’m using a GameCube controller? Eh? What then?

Of course then I can’t use a shield, so I’m dead long before I get a chance to roll off anything.

Steam deck controller > PlayStation controller > Xbox controller > Nintendo switch pro controller

I think controller is only ‘necessary’ for souls games due to them not supporting keyboard and mouse well. I’d prefer to use keyboard for it, but all of the inputs and menu-ing is fucked up.

Tbh, its a testament to how good the games are, that they are enjoyable despite a huge lack of QoL across the board
