“Western allies can work around toxic decision-making in small countries such as Austria, Hungary, and Slovakia. But Germany is too big to ignore”, writes Edward Lucas, non-resident Senior Fellow and Senior Adviser at the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA).
Calling Germany “the weakest link” of its allies, Lucas claims that the country “clearly needs a new security policy”.
“Ukrainians and their friends are justifiably furious about all this. The Zeitenwende [seachange] that the German leader announced after Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022 has proved deeply disappointing.”
I think that that might be fair for early 2022. Germany’s started moving since then, though. Not really the same situation, or at least that’s my impression.
Your “Researcher” just published something very similar on the right wing Daily Mail:

There are more Russian spies in Germany than in any other country. It is a consequence of its once divided status.It is a consequence of its once divided status.
That was 35 years ago and in the mean time the Soviet Union collapsed and they are in a war with Ukraine. If I were to bet Ukraine has more Russian spies then Germany right now. Just because they are trying a lot harder.
@MrMakabar
Not factually the case.
MI6 and the CIA are concerned about Germany for good reason.
Germany has been opaque, inconsistent and overly cautious. Schulz says sending Taurus might drag Germany into direct war. But Russia could drag Germany into it anytime citing current support if they want. (They haven’t.)
