because life is less important than ‘honor’ or some such nonsense.

religion is a vestigial trait that must be culled. a crutch of the weak mind humans no longer require

It seems a lot of humans still require it though, that’s the whole problem imho. If everyone was on the same page it would have disappeared or be no more than folklore same for the rest of legends and such like.

But a lot of humans still have a long way to go and waaaayyyy too many are preying on them while too little of us are steering towards betterment…

a lot of humans require it, or a lot of humans are raised in an environment where they have no choice?

i suspect the number of people that require religion for psychological reasons is quite small. the rest are just indoctrinated

A lot of people still required it for spiritual reasons. Atheism is not for everyone and some still need directions from a superior force in order to put their values/lives in order.

I’m find that behaviour naive and kind of foolish, but as long as they are respectful with others and don’t try to convert everyone else I don’t see a problem.

That’s said, Christians are way less indoctrinated and usually are freely to choose, at least in my experience ( western europe ). If that’s possible is thanks to the historically separation of church and state, which is something the other 2 big religions dosnt seem to like.

if you were raised in an environment where the truth of ‘spirituality’ is that its completely fake, would they still require it?

if all of the worlds children were raised without religion or spirituality, would it still be a requirement?

We don’t need spirituality but it will enrich a life if done with love and compassion for all regardless of gender sex identity geography or color or anything. I am the same as you reading this, had I been born in your situation with ypur life and your parents my 'best thinking would be your best thinking. Humans are an expression of circumstance privlage mostly with some individual aspects …

I dont think theres so few. A lot of people have a need to be led. And if it isnt religion and gods it is something else. Like “leaders”. Like the golden(-ish) cow the US’ republicans are worshiping.

I believe MOST people have such a strong need to follow something that they will ignore or invent justification for the morality of it. And I dont think one can learn that, rather one has to learn NOT to follow. But I’m no psychiatrist.

we are social beings, we require each others company. that some will lead and others will follow is a natural, psychological state of our species. that said, at no point is religion or spirituality required for that process.

I agree on principle, and I’m an atheist myself.

But the concept of faith, with a set of never changing rules and the ability to categorize things easily into good and bad, is far more persuasive and powerful than the vague assembly of progressive values associated with a belief in rationality. Also, a massive part of the human population is centering their life around their respective assembly of mystified guidelines and ethics, and the search for a spiritual truth is also very ingrained and inherent to the human condition.

Simply removing that wont work without replacing the void with a new belief system and ethics code.

i disagree. the thirst for religion is almost entirely because we, as children, are indoctrinated before we even have the ability of choice.

i would suspect a generation raised without religion at all would not require, or even desire religious ideals.

i disagree that a religious framework is ever required for morality or rule-creation in absolutely any capacity. its superfluous.

Man, that whole top post was completely foreign in multiple ways. Women of 25 years old being spinsters, going to university ruins women, bargaining costs with the father to marry the daughter while the mother is ignored, dating non-Muslims ruins a woman, virginity tests…what a fucked up and controlling world.

I worked with Arabs at a gyro cafe off and on for 5ish years. Jordanian, Iraqi, Saudi, Kuwaiti, Egyptian, some religious, some meh, one atheist. I have heard some wild shit. I’ve seen some garbage imams and heard their worthless ideas. These people exist just like crazy evangelical Christians. The only thing that makes me raise an eyebrow is the volume of garbage I read. It doesn’t reflect the ratio of normal to crazy that I encountered between my co-workers, their families, and friends I would meet. It makes me wonder how much troll farms play a role. Russia has something to gain from making the world hate Muslims. Israel has something to gain from the world hating Muslims. Both are really good at propaganda. Some of this stuff deserves a hard side eye squint because there is no doubt there are bad actors involved trying to sway the public.

Victim blaming is an ageless tradition in the middle eastern cultures. Doesn’t matter if it’s a Muslim woman, Christian woman or Jewish woman… All the Abrahamic religions consider women as a faulty part of the humanity and in corporation with the devil. So I’m not surprised. I’m also not surprised that so called Christians circle jerking each other while they don’t know what their bible says about women. Ignorance is bliss as they say. Because you won’t be talking shit if you know what the fuck is really up with so called religion.
