Bond needs to be set based on monetary worth. Also I’d think that crimes of this magnitude would necessitate a much larger bail
Bond needs to be a thing of the past. If you’ve already determined he should be in custody for the time being, paying money doesn’t make it less so. The fact that it’s pocket money for him is just even more absurd.
Bonds are to restrict the poors. It’s serving it’s intended purpose in this case. Allowing the rich to walk while keeping the not rich in their place.
Unlike bail, you don’t actually pay a bond unless you violate its terms.
Thank you, I mixed them up as well!
It’s to prevent people from running away instead of going to trial. If you have nothing, no small amount of money will keep you from running. The assumption is that you are getting someone else to post it for you. They are then the ones that keep you in line so they get their money back.
Absolutely none of this applies to this case though. $200,000 is not going to keep President Trump from skipping off to Russia.
I wanna see Dog tackle Trump
Yep. This is a huge burden on the poorest in our society and basically means the poorest will never be able to afford bond and the richest will always be able to afford bond. At both ends of the spectrum, bond is basically meaningless. If someone is sufficiently rich, if they want to run, they will, regardless of if $200k is forfeit. If someone is sufficiently poor, they’ll never be able to afford to be out of jail, even if they have no intention on running. I’m not saying that Trump is, in fact, a flight risk, but bond is stupid and if someone should be in jail, then they should be in jail or if they should not be in jail, then they should not be in jail. I know it’s an imperfect system living in an imperfect world, but can someone please come up with some sort of technology mechanism so that the current bond system is rendered obsolete, please?
I feel like the answer is making jail/prison less of a fucking tortuous experience (ala the Scandinavian model), but some people seem to think that jail/prison being the worst possible place to be is a feature, not a bug. If jail were less torturous, then it would be conceivable for rich people who deserve jail to have to go there while awaiting trial and the bond system could be done away with…but that would mean making it nicer for everyone, so probably won’t happen.
Given his means, the terms should have included surrendering his passport and an ankle bracelet.

I feel like that’s missing a couple zeros
Not when you’re rich, you can get away with murder with enough money.
We need a fucking mug shot.

LOCK HIM UP! LOCK HIM UP!!
(Isn’t that what he’s always saying?)
If he were an actual billionaire this would be meaningless to him, so he must be pretty pissed about 200k.
I’m sure his supporters are already sending money towards the bail.
True. And at the same time that’s less money for down ballot campaigns
The order was signed off on by Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee. The order, which was signed by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and Trump’s attorneys, says that Trump “shall perform no act to intimidate any person known to him or her to be a codefendant or witness in this case or to otherwise obstruct the administration of justice.”
It also says the “Defendant shall make no direct or indirect threat of any nature against the community or to any property in the community; The above shall include, but are not limited to, posts on social media or reposts of posts made by another individual on social media.”
So…he’s not going to be in jail, despite the continuous witness intimidation he’s already engaged in. I suppose I should be thankful at least it sounds like they are already building in specific orders to avoid intimidation so there’s a chance he could have his bond revoked and be taken into custody.
The more relevant question is will his secret service detail will allow him to leave the country?
