Why use Strava when we have this European alternative?
Weird time to be promoting Komoot. I recently had to help my parents cancel scummy 5€ per week subscriptions they accidentally signed up for.
Someone else linked it before but I also recommend reading the write-up over at https://bikepacking.com/plog/when-we-get-komooted/.
Fwiw, Komoot was acquired by Bending Spoons, who promptly laid off most of the staff.
Exactly. Don’t use Komoot. Don’t use anything from Bending Spoons.
I didn’t know that. But at least it’s our evil capitalist at work. Between evil capitalist in the US or in the EU, there’s still considerable advantages in picking the EU one. Money stay closer by, don’t feed Trump’s economy etc
Komoot’s the latest wrenching reminder that corporate platform monopolies don’t work for communities. We need open-source, non-profit platforms that are owned and governed by the people.
from When we get komooted
better skip the corporate platforms entirely and try e.g. https://wanderer.to/
I tried wanderer and it is just not good. At all. I wondered if I can contribute to it. But tbh… in this state, i had zero motivation to get active. And I wanted to find something to replace komoot.
Hadn’t heard of this, but have been actively waiting for it to exist. Very cool, thanks!
Komoot was bought some large EU corp and gutted.
I’ve had Komoot on my phone for ages, didn’t realise it could record running.
Till employees start Luigging the traitorous heads that sold them out, this will continue to happen. The only things those greedy monkeys understand are wealth and violence. Make the threat of violence ostensibly present when considering selling your staff off in exchange for wealth!
