LibreOffice works, but it is not designed to be a “GNOME” application.

Oh FFS … It works as intended but … I don’t want it, because it wasn’t specifically designed for gnome. Imagine the horror it works in another desktop environment.

That must bee the most pathetic thing I’ve read in a looooong time.

in a full GNOME/libadwaita setup, Libreoffice (and also Firefox) stands out like a sore thumb. So i get it.

Meh. Blender and any online app stand out like a sore thumb for how unique they are. That doesn’t make them bad apps.

This GNOME crap is so insanely cultish it’s … just sad. The only people more braindeadedly set on a specific OS are Apple fanboys…

This mirrors how macOS has achieved loyalty through consistent UI/UX patterns, despite lacking the broader market dominance of Windows.

Yep, there it is. So brianwashed by GNOME they don’t even understand how Apple is such an insane walled garden for the sake of vendor lockin and user exploitation and should not be reproduced… (and cannot be reproduced in a free product, ffs)

who says that it makes them bad apps? Also just naming one and then all online apps? now thats a feeble attempt at whatever you tried to construe.

Whats cultish about wanting to have a Desktop that looks and feels like a consistent OS?

ah yes… the walled garden of GNOME… because of consistent GUIs and Look&Feel. Maybe we all should go back to CDE when there was only one Desktop Look and Feel and kill off KDE all together.

Your desktop DOES feel like a consistent thing. These are separate applications to do specific things not everyone needs to do. That already have delivered solutions…

Again, you’re just proving how cultish and stupid these walled gardens are.

              What’s cultish?

And how does it measure up to a walled garden?

Why do KDE and GNOME have their own File manager? why their own System settings? Why does MS Office 95 not look foreign in Windows 95/98?

You apparently have no tickets in this game, so why are you even arguing? Just go ahead be up and holy decreeing that GNOME is shit.

lol Your attitude is what is cultish. People used to make fun of KDE for having their own apps for everything. Of course it was usually light ribbing.

Like I said, recreate the wheel if you want. I won’t be cheering you on.

MacOS is proprietary software. They achieve such uniformity by mandating it. That is not what we want. Stop wasting resources chasing such stupid positions.

lol GNOME cannot do the same thing. That’s the point. They do not have the leverage Apple does. Now how about you use your brain for the next response instead of stating vapid excuses?

You can reinvent the wheel if you want, but I’ll still call you stupid for saying it’s such a great idea.

I didn’t say anything about whether or not they could do the same thing. I said they shouldn’t try. And if you actually read my comment instead of being a complete dick for no reason at all, you might find that we agree.

The article basically says they should try.

“Not what we want” is not going to save you when the topic article is saying exactly that.

Nothing I say is going to “save me”. I honestly have no idea what point you’re trying to make here.

Do GNOME folks just never use Kdenlive or even OBS Studio? 😅

I’m surprised I see these kinds of articles and comments about LibreOffice all the time but never about Qt apps like OBS Studio that don’t really have a good GTK alternative (afaik).

I use OBS and Krita and Kdenlive very often and they’re great. I also use Gnome and think it’s great.

This is likely just an inflammatory article and engagement bait

The author didn’t even put, “update LibreOffice to be more compatible with GNOME specific libraries” on the list of obvious possible solutions… While writing new apps whole-cloth and updating decades old software were … and also says this idea isn’t meant as a replacement…

This reads like a product manager who idolizes Apple and doesn’t actually understand how hard development is, or how foolish ostracizing the rest of your ecosystem is. (GNOME will never exist outside of Linux)

As a gnome user (and one who continues to choose it over other des) I get the idea but don’t honestly want it.

Like evolution is technically gnome oriented. But I still use Thunderbird over it. I like the integrated design but spending man hours on something already done instead of trying to just theme it seems like a waste.

Jmho. Like go for it but seems like there’s far better avenues.

I hope an AI wrote this because it embarrasses me as a human if another human actually thought all these things and wrote them down for mass publication
