I disagree wholeheartedly. This shit happening under Trump is the best thing to keep Libs from changing their ideals. Libs will learn nothing from this because they will literally only blame it on big bad orange man. Orange man is the only problem. America isn’t bad, only orange man. Ice isn’t bad, only orange man ice. Etc etc.
They will then turn and blame orange man on leftists and non-voters for not voting for the blue fascist. Because “this wouldn’t be happening under blue fascist. Only red fascist orange man bad.” They will then fantasize about minorities, leftists, and non-voters being beat to death by the police and ice while they smuggle say “well I guess you should have voted for blue fascist.”
I hope you are right. I’m at the point in my doomerism where I’m begging to be proven wrong. The populace of this country continues to just strive to go lower and lower in expectations.
My biggest worry is that people falling out of the liberal mainstream end up moving predominantly to the right. The biggest problem, in my opinion, is that the left doesn’t have a compelling narrative that hooks people in the way the right does. The level of organization is far worse, and this is really what we need to focus on right now. How do we convey our ideas in a clear and appealing way that clicks with people.
It is just inevitable when even the supposed “left” movies that come out can’t help but frame revolutionaries or leftists as hippies (i.e. One battle after another) and the fascists as badasses.
