So this is complaining about people complain which ironically justifies complaining
I mean it’s better than nothing? Sure it could always be more but I feel like pushing for more resistance and better protests is better than just making fun of it.
I mean it’s better than nothing?
Nope. It’s a do-nothing release valve, kind of like taking a painkiller and pretending your arm hasn’t been chopped off.
Sure it could always be more but I feel like pushing for more resistance and better protests is better than just making fun of it.
Probably, but this is c/leftymemes, not r/howtoeducateliberalsmemes. Also Americans tend to be very resistant to the idea that they should do more.
Protests can work, but only if it triggers a government overreaction. Once you have images of troops/police beating up grandma or outright murdering people, that can be enough to trigger far stiffer resistance and radicalise people to the cause. You want to create martyrs, basically.
This is also why I’m always sceptical about calls for violence, especially on the internet. Especially against fascists who are often very good at portraying themselves as the victims. You need to be careful to do it right, or you end up with another Horst Wessel or Charlie Kirk.

True, but that’s the thing: Only disruptive protests can trigger a government overreaction. As authoritarianism takes hold the definition of “disruptive” becomes more expansive, but at least as it stands right now the kind of protests we’ve seen so far won’t cut it.
Especially against fascists who are often very good at portraying themselves as the victims.
I think there needs to be a lot more “spicy” resistance before violence becomes viable, but to be fair people who buy bullshit fascist narratives and people who would join anti-fascist resistance are probably two non-intersecting circles on a Venn diagram. I mean have you seen how MAGAts talk about Renee Good? These guys do not live in reality.
or you end up with another Horst Wessel or Charlie Kirk.
Not sure who the former is, but the killing of Charlie Kirk was a net good. The fascists aren’t doing anything they wouldn’t already do, and now there’s no more Charlie Kirk pushing fascist narratives.
Agree on the protests being insufficiently disruptive. You need to block roads and stuff like that.
Members of MAGA are lost. You need to convince those in the middle who are too apathetic, lazy, selfish, or scared to do anything. Convince them that they have something to lose, that they’re next.
Horst Wessel was an SA thug in Nazi Germany who was killed by communists. His death was very succesfully used by Goebbels as propaganda. They wrote a song about it and made it the official Nazi anthem. It is now banned in Germany.
MAGA were quite obviously inspired by Wessel, when they attempted to make Kirk a martyr. The critical thing to understand about Wessel, is that before he died, there were previous attempts at creating a martyr. So I would expect MAGA to attempt to make another Wessel sooner rather than later.

So if people aren’t doing the kind of resistance we want, and we can’t push people who already are willing to to some kind of action to be better informed and move more left, what the fuck do we do?
We always need more leftists, especially those with the willpower to actually go out and do shit. And where do you get more leftists? Hoping and playing people educate themselves, or pushing people who already mostly have similar base ideals to realize the logical conclusions of our current systems and what this administration is trying to do, and act accordingly?
what the fuck do we do?
If you’re American, organize locally. Agitation is nice and all, but at this stage I suspect you’d be more screaming at a wall than anything else. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink, as they say, so right now it’s better to get some infrastructure ready for when shit hits the far. If you’re not American, then frankly there’s nothing you can do except hope for the best and brace for the worst, in which case welcome to the club.

Education is nice, but there are better ways to do that than policing memes on a small leftist community in the corner of the internet.
There’s also the question if you can trust random strangers on the internet.
I would argue that if you’re doing something that may cause issues under an authoritarian government, it’s best to discuss this with people you actually know and preferably off-line.
I know you don’t wanna hear it, but organize! Talk to your neighbours, volunteer in your community, join a tenant union.
Even infiltrating these “protests” and ask questions like “isnt it weird that the lady who owns Wal Mart is sponsoring this protest?”
It’s confusing that anarchists havent figured this out but you gotta take a page from the commies on this one.
Exactly, that’s precisely what I mean by pushing liberals and the people who are protesting to do more.
Not just making fun of people who are doing a not very effective protest, but talking to them and connecting with them.
I do believe that actual anarchists are already doing that. Just seems to be left libs or baby leftists who still haven’t purged their inner liberal
This isn’t a community for talking down to anarchists matey, please remember rule 1.
America: Kidnaps world leaders, does genocide, deports millions of Mexicans for decades, murders marginalized citizens, does slave-labour
Americans: sleep*
America: kills a white woman
Americans: REAL SHIT!!
Deeply racist country, no self awareness.
The internet is still full of Americans lecturing the rest of us on freedom, democracy, free speech, and racism.
It’s a joke.
Nailed it.
