Europe readies digital infrastructure push in 2026
The European Commission plans to roll out a series of digital infrastructure laws in 2026 which aim at a single objective: reducing the EU’s reliance on foreign – chiefly American – technology companies.
Euractiv, 6 January 2026
Have the EU asked permission to the USA, already? Because they may not approve of that decision and, we wouldn’t want to be suddenly liberated from ourselves, like it recently happened in a certain South American countr… or was it already the 51st state of the USA and people had not been told? It’s so confusing…
Long live the emperor, obviously.
I bet this was announced on X and Facebook.
I found it on Mastodon. It is also on Bluesky and X.
By whom, though? I bet not by the European Commission.
Not yet. But they are present at Masto.
I was actually referring to the article, which was shared on those platforms. Euractiv is usually well informed. Since it seems to be based on off the record conversations, it is definitely not something that the European Commission will/can share at this stage.
I was thinking/speaking about politicians in general, who don’t usually see beyond X and Facebook. Some EU institutions are actually present on Masto, which is a big plus, but in general the situation is still an abomination.
