    Funny enough, as Rome declined, it became increasingly puritan, misogynist, and sex-negative. Women who were raped were criminalized for not screaming loud enough in the early 4th century AD (contrary to prior Roman law dating back to the start of the Republic, which regarded victims of rape as legally and morally blameless), gay marriage was banned in the mid-4th century AD, and homosexual behavior itself was outlawed in the late 4th century AD, with the Empire itself falling in the late 5th century AD.
