Thousands of demonstrators flooded the streets of Athens on Saturday afternoon, in an immediate and militant response to the new imperialist crime carried out by the United States against Venezuela.

Within hours of the military intervention, a mass march organized by the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and its youth wing, KNE, converged outside the U.S. Embassy, sending a clear message of internationalist solidarity with the Venezuelan people.

Throughout the march, demonstrators chanted slogans denouncing U.S. imperialism and its blood-soaked role across the globe:“Americans—murderers of peoples" and “the imperialists are redividing the world, drawing borders with the blood of peoples.”

From loudspeakers along the route, the official statement of the KKE condemning the U.S. attack echoed continuously, reinforcing the political character of the mobilization. Upon reaching the U.S. Embassy, members of the KNE unfurled large banners and ignited smoke flares bearing messages of solidarity with the people of Venezuela, written in English—an unmistakable signal that this protest was directed not only at the Greek authorities, but at the imperialist center itself.

The demonstration underscored that the Greek working people refuse to remain silent accomplices in crimes committed in their name, and that internationalist resistance to imperialist war is both immediate and organized.

KKE MEPs intervene in the European Parliament: Condemnation of U.S. Imperialist Intervention

The European Parliamentary Group of the KKE denounced the unacceptable imperialist intervention of the United States in Venezuela through a formal parliamentary question addressed to the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas. The question was submitted by KKE Members of the European Parliament Kostas Papadakis and Lefteris Nikolaou-Alavanos.

In their intervention, the KKE MEPs stress that the United States has carried out an outright imperialist assault against the people of Venezuela and the country’s sovereignty. U.S. military operations targeted the capital, Caracas, other major cities, and military bases across Venezuelan territory.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, provocatively announced the arrest of Venezuela’s legitimate president, Nicolás Maduro, along with his wife, and went so far as to proclaim the imposition of an American administration over Venezuela—an announcement described by the KKE as unthinkable and criminal.

According to the KKE, this attack—drenching the Venezuelan people in blood—is not an isolated act but part of a broader chain of fierce imperialist rivalries, manifested today in dozens of open war fronts around the world. Far from being a sudden development, the intervention follows weeks of U.S. military re-deployments across Latin America, aimed at countering the growing influence of China and Russia in the region.

Venezuela, the KKE notes, possesses immense energy wealth, holding the largest oil and natural gas reserves in Latin America, alongside rich mineral resources. For this very reason, it has become a focal point of brutal imperialist competition. Baseless claims by the U.S. government about a so-called “war on drug trafficking” are cynically exploited to legitimize military aggression.

Within this framework of rivalry, the European Union is also seeking its share of the spoils on behalf of European monopolies. On 15 December, the EU renewed its sanctions against Venezuela for yet another year, invoking the familiar pretexts of “undermining democracy and the rule of law”—the standard tools used by the EU to interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign states.

At these critical hours, the people of Venezuela are paying a heavy price as their country comes under imperialist invasion. The KKE affirms their full right to defend their territorial integrity through mass struggle and to determine their own future without foreign intervention.

Based on these positions, the KKE MEPs pose direct questions to the European Commission:

How does it position itself regarding the unacceptable U.S. imperialist intervention that violates the territorial integrity of an independent state, Venezuela, and regarding the demand that this aggression cease immediately?

How does it respond to the fact that statements by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, calling for a “democratic transition,” and by the High Representative Kaja Kallas, claiming that the Maduro government “lacks legitimacy,” effectively pour fuel on the fire of the U.S. intervention—undermining the right of the Venezuelan people to determine developments in their own country, free from foreign interference, and to choose their own path?
