This is a pretty unnecessary post, but I have no one irl who I can share this sentiment with.

I’ve only just finished with Vicar Amelia, and while I can’t imagine I’m that far into the game, I’ve seen enough to say that it’s awesome, and barring any falloffs in quality through the rest of the game, may easily become my favorite souls entry.

I’ve been burned too many times before by hype, but not this one.

Only real reason I could see how someone might be let down by Bloodborne is if they just don’t jive with the gothic/Lovecraftian horror aesthetic.

But not me, this shit is fire and has entered my horror media pantheon next to Elfriede Jelinek’s The Children of the Dead and Andrzej Zulawski’s Possession.

This is the only one I have never experienced multiplayer in. Not because I don’t have PS+ for it, but because I absolutely do not understand how it works. I ring my bells and never see “signs” other than NPCs, nor do I ever invade, get invaded or be summoned. Maybe I got into it too late? I only got the game like 3 years ago when I got a PS5 just for it and the Demon’s Souls remake. Maybe it doesn’t have crossplatform play and there aren’t many playing on a PS5 vs a PS4? IDK…

I hella wanna experience PvP in Bloodborne.

I recently finished it via emulator and I also think it lived up to the hype. It’s as good as any soulslike and the aesthetic is top notch.

Glad you liked it as well! How was the performance via emulation? It seems like every time I’d hear something about playing it through emulation would be about how a lot of improvements were being made, but it wasn’t quite there yet.

It worked very well. I didn’t experience any crashes or graphical anomalies, but I also didn’t use any of the upscaled or 60fps patches. I wanted the ps4 experience.

Just wrapped up a playthrough of the base game + DLC on emulator, also using the 60 fps patch. My rig is pretty decent, and was hitting 60 most of the time. Really, the big issue is some gpu/cpus run into the “vertex explosion” bug, which while sounding metal af, kinda stops you dead in your tracks visually. Just need a quick quit to main menu and re-continue, so for me it was just a minor gripe. Still got to finish the whole thing, and my lord was it worth it. Just started DS3 to fill the void it left lol

I’ve gotta try playing it on emulator but, and its really stupid, I’m one playthrough away from getting my only PlayStation platinum trophy in it. That being said, I don’t think I can play through it again at 30fps knowing I could be playing 60+

This goes without saying, but do feel free to post your thoughts on anything whenever you feel like it. This is not reddit where draconic moderation rules are applied and all the users downvote new posts for being “reposts” or “redundant” questions. I want to foster a space where you’re free to express your thoughts, ask questions, post memes etc. So don’t worry about it in the slightest - it’s encouraged!

That said, I’m happy you’re enjoying your time with the game. It’s a very multi-layered experience and goes way deeper than you can probably imagine. You’re in for a treat :) enjoy!

While it’s not perfect, bloodborne is definitely my favourite game, ever. Glad to hear you are enjoying it so much! You are just scratching the surface :) Also, be sure to play the DLC!! It’s an absolute must. (Best fight of the game is there, imo.) Hope to hear more of your experience here as you progress.

I’ve played several “soulslikes” and i have to say Bloodborne is my first annd favorite. It’s the combat for me. I don’t like parrying, I’d rather dodge and this game scratches that itch hard.
