Not sure how many people follow Miser but he’s been a big influence on pushing for change in the NYC area. Apparently Mamdani asked him to come up with a plan to make the city’s streets better and this is what he came up with. Pretty incredible work and I hope it can be implemented!
But I’d like to see people pushing for this in every city, not just NYC. If you haven’t already connected with local urbanist activists, I highly encourage it. I’ve been surprised how few people it takes to make an impact. If you’re not sure where to start, check to see if your area has a local strong towns chapter.

This all looks better, than what it is now.
However, as a bicyclist for function over pleasure, both are important, I see one-problem- one of the PICs has the public busying system (including all the corporate transportation- shipping products & Etc.) lane on the inside lane/closer to the sidewalks & such. I can tell that is not good, because cyclist need NOT have to move around buses, like in Scandinavian countries! The people & products getting on & off the sidewalks & Etc. need have to move around them!
Another two-things about the awesome NYC election results & what comes the Democratic Socialist Mayor Mamdani‘s (SP?) term. I was shocked & extremely happy (not that both could be a lot more with a winner outside of The Dem. ‘90+% Capitalist’ Party & more completely taking on all the issues, not the ones & not to the degree that the sellout Socialism & “Independent” AOC & Bernie members) when it was challenging-certain to win.
When he talks publicly (where I can experience his words, actions speak louder, than words) about NYC’s public transportation he only talks about public buses & late or never arriving.
&
A police force of any area is it’s ‘Capitalist’/both parties maintaining force, using (indirectly-directly) ugly racism & Etc… & with last 20-years or more taking on police has gotten more popular, but yet, Democratic Socialist Mayor Mamdani‘s (SP?) CHOSE to not touch them. This is an example of my wait & see attitude (hopefully, not Mr. Obama, Mrs. AOC & Mr. Bernie politician).
I’m not sure I agree this is the worse option. If the vehicle lane is away from the curb, they will have to cross into the cycle lane to park, which will be dangerous. As a frequent cyclist, I’d rather have control of entering the vehicle lane when it’s safe rather than having inattentive vehicle drivers entering my lane all the time. Additionally, drivers are far more used to watching out when turning left than right, so having cyclists to the left may be safer at intersections.
Long-term it will be best to have raised cycle paths at sidewalk level but this may not be within the budget for the time being.
Regarding Mamdani I kind of doubt he’ll implement this but the more publicity and pressure in favor of it, the more likely that will be. A lot of leftists seem very naive in believing politicians can do anything they want, but in reality they are at best merely negotiating concessions from the existing powers. This means they will have to choose some reforms to give up on. But public campaigns both push them to and empower them to make bigger changes, so this is the best lever of influence we have–even stronger than voting, imo.
The NYPD is very politically powerful so my assumption is he decided that was not a fight he could win and other priorities were more important. But who knows, we’ll have to see how he governs to draw firmer conclusions about this.
I always want to be closes to the sidewalk, than any vehicles, especially vehicles that have to make frequent entering of my bicycle lane to back to the traffic lanes, to my left. Remember, the buses & other vehicles needing to reach the stores & Etc. & back out again, have to cross the bicycle lane to get the regular traffic lanes, they need to use. Where as if the bicycle lane was right next to the sidewalks & edge of the whole roadway setup, then buses & other vehicles needing to reach the stores & Etc., only need to look for the bicycles in the bicycle lanes, when they parking. Even then, if the bicycle lane was right next to the sidewalks, then even the parking spots should be out the bicycle lane, thus then only the people walking to sidewalk, stores & Etc. would have be careful. If I had have a crash, What 175-lbs. versus several tons, I would take the person!
“Additionally, drivers are far more used to watching out when turning left than right, so having cyclists to the left may be safer at intersections.“
There is no escape option, if they are not, & where live they are not enough good enough/careful/defensive drivers. At this place, there has got to be a lot people, who agree with that.
“Long-term it will be best to have raised cycle paths at sidewalk level but this may not be within the budget for the time being.“
Right now, now Mr. Obama like BS things take time, the best protection for bicyclist is what they doing Scandinavian countries, either devote the whole roadway to bicyclist or put-up serious barriers & put the bicycle path separate from tye traffic completely!
The budget is just political spin doctoring BS! At a drop of a hat, this countries can spend on somethings that just wastes/sucks upward money when it comes to everything/everyone, except The Rich-Super Rich Economic Classes/Owners who vacuumed even larger profits! How many political violence-wars has this country wasted/sucked upward money, since Mr. Jimmy Carter was president? Trillions?
That is Compromising with the people that could careless about the people, Compromising is Compromising Away The People’s Rights! Plain & simple. The Capitalist of in both parties & more, have been surrendering power to them, for far, far & far too long! This what parties-politicians do that do not want anything close to a Democracy & are bought off by the them or The Rich-Super Rich Economic Classes/Owners!
I could not agree more that as people power/Activism DONE RIGHT (AS A VETERAN ACTIVIST I CAN TELL YOU IS RARELY DONE RIGHT & EASY GIVEN-UP ON) is the biggest power there is! But far, far & far too many people DO NOT DO IT RIGHT & DO NOT HAVE COMMITMENT TO IT, have been raised by bad parents (this one of the biggest ills of this world) & that are somehow still middle class-rich just think their world is isolated from everyone else to the point that just increasing their sickness of greed & things will keep them safe, healthy & happy!
The lack of taking on The Army/Police that protects Capitalist was just a sell-out/Compromising move! Plain & simple. One thing that his own current success, let some others, proves is that if any politician truly takes on issues that most people care about, like The Army/Police that protects Capitalist, then they will get you elected & protected at the same time. As I have heard a fewbtimes from people that campaigned for his victory, if he does not deliver then they will drop him.
