There’s a few chubby King parrots up in my neck of the woods that expect ThreeduckEats, and they’re on their finest behaviour to get it.
I love King Parrots! They are such cheerful (and well-mannered) little guys.
Finely chopped vegetables (including squash, capsicum, eggplant, pumpkin, cucumber, zucchini, green)
They should produce a premade small native animal finely chopped veges mix with these ingredients. This list was in three or four of the groups listed. Surprised to see capsicum in there, i’d have thought that was too peppery.

Thank you. I intend to put up posts on actions we can take to help counter the challenges faced by our wildlife (plant and animal) as a result of what we’re doing to the planet. Your trigger warning clarified it for me. I will include posts in the future on not only what we can do in our own patch but also on more ‘political’ actions we can take such as the signing of petitions if it’s ok with the moderators. I’ve even come up with a motto 😆. Don’t despair, REPAIR! 🦘
Nice. That’s much more positive than my own motto: Don’t make it worse.
(My thinking is that it can sometimes be overwhelming to think of all the things that one could be doing to save the world - but no one has to do everything, just as long as we’re pulling in the right direction.)

Theres a subsection there called ‘conservation’ with links to a number of sites that could help you find more wildlife based news. Most of the links come from the first two moderators of this community, who have since moved on, u/treevan is still knockin about lemmy somewhere, i think they’re on .solarpunk now. I geberally update the lists with a few links once or twice a year.
One of the things i love about wildlife posts is, while the overall extinction and biodiversity crisis is overwhelming, there are always small wins and hopeful projects being pushed through.

I don’t have a smartphone so on my laptop it’s not a mess at all. I put up the food for wildlife post up first because right now we are in the midst of major events (fires, floods, droughts, heatwaves) all happening at the same time. When it comes to wildlife, we can ALL take action (or not - this is really important too) to protect and increase (particularly our smallest pollinators and soil organisms without which we can not have a healthy world).
I’m new to these alternative social media sites and had never heard of the solarpunk one. Would you have a link?So, its still lemmy, its just another server with a niche interest area.
To explain, just in case you’ve not read about it. And this has got long, sorry.
Lemmy isn’t a single platform, its a linked network of platforms run by different people. It uses the activitypub protocol to enable communication between these servers.
Aussie zone, our server is for Australians and friends of, for an Australian perspective on topics. A good example is c/overseas news, its ostensibly a world news community, like many others on lemmy, but with a focus on the Australian perspective.
https://slrpnk.net/, is the same type of server as Aussie Zone, but instead of the niche interest being Australia, it’s niche is the positive-green-communistic approach of Solarpunk.
As far as I know solarpunk is fully public facing, like Aussie Zone. So we can see and participate in all their communities, and discussions, and likewise they can see and participate in all ours.
For ease of use the app sync actually allows you to visit the specific servers and look through all their communities, unfortunately the app developer hasn’t updated in a long time, so its less popular than it was during the Re-xodus. Otherwise you can go to the url in this message, and look for the list of communities from there.

I had a look at solarpunk. It’s not communistic at all. In fact, the moderator rejects communism. I like its idealism. It has the feeling of youth. It’s a bit too art college for me but hey I’m of a different generation and I’m more plainspoken. Thank you for letting me now about it. I feel like I’m going on a magical mystery tour discovering this alternative social media.
Oh cool. I thought all solarpunkers had that communistic part, must just be a section of the movement. I think i read that communistic part on a random solarpunk community awhile back, it surprised me when i read it, and kind of ruined it for me when they were so dogmatic about that element. Must’ve just been that community I’s on. The idealism of solarpunk is very refreshing.

Yeah sorry, i did go on, and yet i left a lot out! I find the comparative associations you can draw between decentralised and centralised platforms endlessy interesting, from gripes about targeted ads, or endless ai slop, to turning here with no ads but then endless debates over lemmy’s notorious tankie element. Its different, feels more alive even though is slower moving.

BTW, are capsicums in your neck of the woods peppery? I’ve never found a peppery one, ever. Good for everyone.Don’t get me wrong, not super peppery, but I recognise a hint to its chilli plant cousins.

I know chickens are immune to the capsaicin (the peppery shit in chillis etc) so possibly all birds are?

Capsicum is pretty sweet and mild. The seeds could be hot though.
As for things like chillies. You’d think it was bad for them but I’ve seen info saying birds either can’t taste the spiciness of capsaicin or have some level of resistance to it. So they could probably have chili peppers. Large amounts would probably upset their stomachs though.
I don’t know, keep seeing contradictory information and haven’t tested it.
Have to say this is some weird take (not the OP but Taronga) , like a suggestion not to take a plastic bittle of water whike flying across the planet.
Climate chage, pollution, land clearing, urban sprawl, introduced feral speciles like cats and dogs etc are decimating local animal populations and we Australian’s jave the deserved honour of sending more species extinct then any other nation on earth :(
Every time i cycle, i ride past dead wombats, quolls, possums, wallabies etc strewn along the roads. The land all around me is cleared for cattle (dariy and beef) and what’s ledt ober is then cleared for forestry which is really just a green desert, devoid of most life. All this gives native wildlife so little chance to be resilient.
I’d suggest the best advice for animal lovers is to vote Green to try and halt the ecological genocide, rather then chop up zucchini for the few left.
We must do both and more. Vote Green (I do) even though they haven’t been able to get the results we needed to the new national environment laws. 😪
There is Realpolitik and there is what happens on the ground so voting for environmentally responsible parties or individuals is not enough and the flow-on results are slow and sometimes don’t happen at all. We need to be politically engaged but also have practical skills we can apply to our besieged wildlife.This info was put together by Taronga after the devastating Black Summer fires in which surviving wildlife were left with nothing to continue living. I really think to learn what to do to help wildlife in need is as important as knowing first aid to help people survive. I don’t think this is weird.
