After seeing a megathread praising Mao Zedong, an actual mass killer, and a post about a guy saying “99% of westerners are 100000000000% sure they know what happened in ‘Tiny Man Square’ […] the reasons for this are complex and involve propaganda […],” I am genuinely curious what leads people to this belief system. Even if propaganda is involved when it comes to Tiananmen Square, it doesn’t change the atrocities that were/are committed everywhere else in China.
I am all for letting people believe what they want but I am lost on why one would deliberately praise any authoritarian system this hard.
Can someone please help me understand why this is such a large and prominent community? How have these ideals garnered such a following outside of China?
EDIT: Thank you to everyone who has responded! This thread has been very insightful :)

You seem to be confusing communism & socialism for capitalism, which kills orders of magnitude more people. https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/10455752.2021.1875603
And for all your fiery moralism, I don’t think you actually care about any of the people you’ve claimed to. I think they’re crocodile tears for preserving the status quo—the imperial core’s capitalism & imperialism—which you feel you benefit from.
You seem to be confused about China being a fascist nation. Let me clear it up for you. They made more billionaires this year than the US.
I find it amusing that you hand wave away all the killing the CCP did and then accuse me of not caring. Brother it is clear only one of us actually cares about human life, the other can excuse the death as long as it is their team.
If you are trying to pretend China isn’t imperialist you have to be purposely ignorant of what they have done. I don’t think engaging with someone who denies reality is generally helpful.
China has 1.4 billion people, and moreover it’s a socialist nation due to public ownership being the principle aspect of their economy and the working classes in control of the state. The presence of billionaires in China does not mean it is fascist, just that it has both wealth and a capitalist class, neither of which deny it from being socialist and in transition between capitalism to communism.
Further, China is not imperialist. They aren’t under the control of private finance capital, and don’t function by export of capital but by export of commodities. They aren’t plundering the global south through imperialism or unequal exchange. Dogmatically stating that someone is wrong by claiming they are denying reality and therefore aren’t worthy of backing up your own points is entirely unconvincing to anyone.
China is very socialist with its billionaire rulers
When billionaires in the US commit massive fraud they get bailed out, when they do it in China they’re imprisoned or executed. Your analysis is extremely and very obviously wrong.
I already explained that public ownership is the principle aspect of the economy and the working class is in charge of the state. China has billionaires because it’s both wealthy and has capitalists, but these capitalists control the small and medium secondary industries and have no political power. The highest levels of the CPC have extremely few capitalists:
Meanwhile, capitalists are regularly executed or fleeced of all of their property if they oppose the socialist system.
If you have billionaires you are capitalist end of story. save the propaganda for your comrades and go fertilize Ukraine
Read a book
Your point is that there’s no transition between capitalism and communism, but instead an immediate destruction of all class all at once, overnight? Or is it that a society run by the working classes and public ownership as principle is capitalist all the way until the very last capitalist is liquidated, at which point it’s communist? Either way, your understanding of class struggle and modes of production is deeply confused and based on a type of “purity” in production and distribution that has never existed. A capitalist state isn’t socialist just for having some degree of public property, so too is a socialist state not capitalist just for having some degree of private property.
Telling me to kill myself is also deeply unserious behavior. You have no evidence, no logic to back your claim, just a self-supported assertion and an insult.
