Spending time in photoshop instead of asking the misinformation machine to make this would make it good, yes.

Why? You just say it would be good, without explaining why. How is this image contributing to misinformation?

It’s not the image itself, it’s the tool. Using it normalises the use of AI generation and thus indirectly promotes misinformation.

you are saying the tool is evil. i’m saying the system that utilizes it is evil, not the tool itself.

because stealing art, jobs or using it for war and surveillance, or making a huge bubble out of it risking everyday people’s livelihoods isn’t an llm thing per se, it’s a capitalism thing.

its the corporate takeover of tech that should worry us, beyond just what they do with ai.

Because the Marxist-Leninist stance on AI isn’t fully formed, but generally sees it as a tool that can be useful, but that it’s being used for the worst ways under capitalism. I have yet to find an argument against AI in all cases that is grounded in dialectical materialism, instead it seems that aversion to AI is more emotional and moral than logical. Socialist countries already are using AI for beneficial reasons, the problems with AI largely stem from capitalism.

So there isn’t anything wrong with using AI to generate this image, except the possibility that others can use it for misinformation? How is that different from photoshop? Surely the misinformation is the problem, and not the tool at a universal level?

It’s not about using this image for anything, this image doesn’t matter. It’s the normalisation of using AI generated images in general, for anything. I don’t know how else to explain that.

It’s not the tool, it’s the use of the tool for misinformation that’s the problem. The internet, photoshop, TV, news, education system even are all used for misinformation, but that does not mean they are all dogmatically bad. The same applies to image generation.

So normalising the use of the tool that is just begging to be used to generate tons of misinformation with no effort at all and vomit it onto the internet does NOT promote misinformation?

Not any more than using photoshop, the internet, or social media does. You’re taking a neo-Luddite stance against AI, irrationally blaming the tool instead of the capitalist system that abuses it.

I can blame both at the same time and also be aware that it’s a lot harder and a lot more effort and thus a much bigger hurdle to shop even one convincing piece of misinformation than to simply prompt an AI for a gazillion of them.

I hate to break it to you but even Photoshop is an AI slop generation tool now. Hell, most flagship phones don’t take pictures anymore. What you get is an AI generated composite of a number of frames it took. Everything is fucked. Reality is done for.
