Explanation from Artist:
Selim the Grim was one of the most brutal Ottoman sultans, who tripled the empire’s territory in the 16th century by beating both Safavid Iran and the Mamluks. A hard man who did not enjoy luxuries, he often critized his son Suleiman for dressing too feminine, remarking ‘what would your mother wear now?’
That being said, Selim liked his fair share of foreign twinks. He sent women’s underwear to the handsome redhead Shah Ismail to humiliate him. After he defeated Ismail in battle and captured the Iranian capital of Tabriz, he looted many talented young men including the then 18-years-old Hasan Can to bring home. With a beautiful face and an angelic voice, Hasan became one of Selim’s favorite courtiers and was invited to recite poetry for the ruler.
I was inspired after seeing the laws around the Turkish military which stated that you can be gay and join the army, but you had to provide video evidence that you’re not the bottom. Good to see that nothing has changed
I genuinely wonder what the evidence required to prove that would be…
