Happened with 2 of my ISPs.
I always started by telling them that I am calling using my registered number. They still asked me my registered number and then commented by telling me that I had called using that number.
Yeah, that’s usually what we did (I worked in support). But even then, we had several other verification steps, so random people couldn’t easily abuse the system. Which used to include account number, among other things.
Agent: I need your account number
Me: I have no fucking idea. Can you find it from my phone number?
Agent: Sure, no problem
Me: Then why the fuck….?
Because your phone number might not be connected to the account you want the info on.
They should just ask if you’re calling from the number associated with your account, they usually ask me that, anyway
