This has been speculated for a while and it’s quite upsetting how popular this party is despite being almost entirely made up of nazis, traitors and corrupt opportunists. These news do not seem to break through to their voters.
Their supporters are so fed up with the existing system that they support anything that would damage it, no matter the fallout. They will fully embrace this and it won’t change a thing about the numbers. It’s a cult.
Could have something to do with the left & centrists being authoritarian against free speech, and the rapid growth of the AfD shows what happens when you do that.
The only speech the socdems (who are, presumably, those you refer to as “left”) suppress heavily is support to Palestine, which is not exactly an AfD talking point.
They literally jail & raid their political opponents. They have a list of wrong think they’ve targeted whenever people question the mainstream establishment agendas.
Again, the authoritarian left & centrist are what has contributed to the growth of the AfD.
I hope people can find something better than the AfD,. but those groups will try to capture people leaving one form of authoritarianism for another.
