I made my own suit of chainmail, and that was SO much work. Imagine doing it for a entire fucking elephant.
What did you make it out of?
Way back in the day, SCA folks were making chainmails out of soda can pop tops, which was awesome to me, since they weighed almost nothing when completed, but looked pretty convincing. But then the pop tops were discontinued…
Oh, metal wire. I think galvanized iron, because I was a poor teenager.
You’d take a copper tube, put a little hole into it, stick the end of the wire into the tube and the tube into a power drill. You spin the wire into a huge spiral which you can then snip into loose rings.
LOTR was in theaters, and I’d discovered LARP. So I was WAY more motivated than I am now.
