My coworker damaged it and severed some wires. It was an interesting fix. The large wires had a center wire with a shield wire woven around it. Hopefully it correctly fixes the issue with the equipment.

Heavy shielding is sometimes used for very good reasons. Sometimes it isn’t. If it’s a high precision device that the cable connects to, just replace the cable. If it’s just something audio related, some noise is likely just fine.
Breaks in shielding can cause strange issues, so keep that in mind.
