Sylvain Chomet’s Les Triplettes de Belleville is easily one of the great accomplishments of movie animation, and something that one can watch on repeat, discovering new features with every viewing. Now, I’d shared it’s pop song breakthrough hit a week ago, but here I want to talk about the movie, as a whole:

Welp… I found it an absolutely absurd, hilarious masterpiece for the ages. The caricatures are wicked-scorchingly-funny, and just utterly fascinating to look at and follow. The story has a ‘warped, Euro’ logic that I greatly appreciate, and despite this nominally being a French film, pretty-much everything is easily-understandable due to the Charlie Chaplin-esque pantomime and negligable vocalisations.

And now… catch it while you can, because it’s hard to believe the entire movie will be free to watch on YT for much longer. Word to the wise:

I got to enjoy this masterpiece in the CycloCinema. ;-)

Probably one of the best movies they could show there.

I really hope they had somebody in a black suit and sunglasses directly next to them. That would have been awesome =D

My god, that’s perfect! oO :D

So what happens if… too many people get to slacking / tired out on their bicycles? Does it cause power dips in the movie displaying properly…?

It has battery for ~10min so no dips. Also it can be powered by ~5 bikes and 3 are just “spare” or for changing riders.

I don’t know all the specifics about it but unintuitively the most power hungry are the speakers so maybe the sound cut off?

No it was in Switzerland, Pedaleo bikepacking festival this summer.

I think the guys with the projection setup were from Spain.
