    People assume that there is always a more qualified and capable white guy and hiring committees are just being forced to choose less capable women and people of color because of DEI. This is literally the reason why we need DEI initiatives, because in a pool of equally qualified candidates, white men are assumed to be somehow superior.

      It’s hard to find strongly qualified, non-white male candidates in some sectors simply because we’ve been oppressing the crap out of women and POC for so long that they aren’t in the market getting experience.

      Even if DEI brings in a slightly less skilled candidate, they come up to speed and then have the experience to stay in the market.

      We need DEI to make sure the workplaces mirror the population distribution.
