In June of 2025, the ACLU of Iowa filed a complaint with the Iowa Office of Civil Rights on behalf of The Satanic Temple (TST) alleging that TST had been discriminated against, as a religious minority, by the Iowa Department of Administrative Services through its then-director, Adam Steen, and by the Office of the Governor, with whom Steen colluded in crafting a denial of public accommodation rejecting The Satanic Temple of Iowa’s request to hold a holiday event on Iowa state capitol grounds in December of 2024.
