I’ve been a member of drug discussion boards for over a decade and have a pretty good understanding of what’s legally allowed (basically any discussion short of step-by-step synthesis instructions) and what’s not (sourcing any drugs, even ‘grey area’ ones).

[email protected] is shut down because…

This community is participating in a blackout against Lemmy for allowing free access to their API with no charge, rendering it affordable for third-party app developers to continue their services. The lack of prohibitive cost makes it easy to mod from mobile, promotes innovation, and gives unlimited user choice, and effectively opens up a significant portion of the culture we’ve all come to appreciate. Indeed, every third party app developer on Lemmy made essentially the same statement: “I don’t have to shut down the app.” Apps can also show ads which is a primary source of revenue. So not only do they not have to pay exorbitant fees, they can even mitigate those fees with ads.

And the current mod is inactive, and has been for 2 years now. I’d like to be made mod there and appoint other mods from active users in the community, considering the sub was pretty active before it got locked down.

    It isn’t like the community is active, make a drugs community on a different instance and build it up from there. Too many communities reside on .world as it is and any efforts to make the fediverse less centralised only benefit us as a whole IMO.

    On top of that a subject like drugs is more likely to be removed or censored by .world Adkins in the future in the same way that they did with piracy in the past.

    There are regular fedigrow posts I see on /all so get yourself on a better more sane instance and grow a community there, posting on the fedigrow posts to gain some visibility. I will happily join in, I believe there are also drugs communities on .ml you might wanna check out :)

      The community was active, by the look of it, before the mods shut it down for… idk why.

      I’d be happy to start one elsewhere if the federated content actually showed up well between instances. It seems pretty spotty in my experience though, so I’d rather run the instance on one of the larger instances, even understanding your point about centralization. I am more of a Pixelfed user generally though, so maybe the federated content sharing works better here?

      I’m pretty sure I can avoid the subreddits being censored by maintaining good moderation, particularly being strict on sourcing and placing a strong emphasis on harm reduction. Unless the admins of this website are simply opposed to the subject being discussed in general, which

      • I doubt is an opinion they hold, seeing as it was the mod of !drugs which shut it down, not the admins of lemmy.world.
      • Would be pretty lame when people are being killed by the fascists in office under the guise of drug-war stigma and rhetoric.

      I did start [email protected] though because I can’t even tell what’s happening with [email protected] , it’s like it got ultra-banned or something lol. And thanks for the recommendations on some other communities!

        Well either way, good luck, once you have a community going I’ll be subscribed and contribute where I can. The more safe spaces with good reliable information that promote harm reduction, the better in my opinion.
