Hey Voyager users!
I added a new feature for Android users (does not affect iOS). It’s currently available in beta. Basically, if you try to swipe back from home/all/local you will see a popup asking you to confirm:

This was added after a lot of feedback from Android users: https://vger.social/post/29745268
It’s a configurable setting (General -> Other -> Confirm Back from Home/All/Local).
My question is: Should this be on by default? Or not? As an android Voyager user, have you experienced this problem where you accidentally swipe back to the communities list? Or have you not experienced this problem?
Excellent feature.
I just noticed this for the first time, and while I never would have requested the feature since I don’t think it’s really ever been a problem, it’s nice to have.
So yes, this is a great new feature that should be on by default, and the never show again checkbox is great.
Oh please yes! There have been so many times I’ve pressed back from a post / post image, only to end up on the communities tab with no way to go back.
You can always add a “Don’t ask again” checkbox on the popup for the people who don’t need it.

I like that idea. Thanks :)
Seconded! It happens to me often using swipe controls and is incredibly frustrating.
HUGE FAN
I don’t have beta features enabled, so haven’t tried it myself, but LOVE the idea of it. Its not too often, but maybe 1 in 100 times when I swipe back to leave a post, it’ll take me back to the home menu (not sure if that’s the right name for it).
I think on by default is the play. Not sure how hard this would be to implement, but maybe the first 3-5 times, include a “don’t show again” button on the bottom of the popup (with another popup on how to re-enable in settings if a user hits “don’t show again”)
Having this on by default with a “never ask again” option (which can then be turned back on in settings) would be ideal.
This gets me all the time. And to be clear, it’s not just swipe to go back, it’s the back button as well.
Its swipe to go back or the hardware back button. The in app back button on the top left won’t have the confirm. It probably should, but I’ll need to figure out a good way to handle that too if people want it.
Okay yeah. I don’t think I use that as often or that it would catch me the same way.
YES!!! 🤩
I’ve been in this thread before. Honestly I’ve just embraced it. I actually use it now. As a quick page refresh.

PS this app rocks
Any reason this wasn’t added for iOS users?
I’ve done this too many times on iOS.
On Android the back button/back gesture is a single event, and its easy to intercept. On iOS the swipe gesture is part of the transition animation, so there’s not really a good place to intercept and ask the user.
Also, you can only swipe back at certain times after other app animations/transitions have completed, so it’s less of a problem on iOS.
Oh my god, I’ve wanted this for so long - lost so much progress over an accidental back press. Thanks for this! (though, I don’t think it needs to be on by default - having it on by default could teach new users not to go into their communities UI)
Edit: though I do agree with the other user who mentioned a “do not ask again” checkbox - I think that would mitigate any concerns. Regardless, I’m just happy we have a warning now!
I do that all the time. Be a nice option.
That leaves my wants list down to just two items. Fix the slight zoom out bug and allow GIFs to be directly posted via keyboards and done. Good as gold. Well done.
I would like this to be on by default. I have lost track of the number of times I have accidentally swiped back too many times.

Yeah i do this all the time, so this would be a useful addition
I personally never get into this situation for some reason. So having this on or not will have negligible effect on my experience either way.
However, if lots of others need this feature, I support it.
It seems harmless to those who don’t need it, and helps significantly those who can benefit from it. Looks like an obvious net win from the UI standpoint.
I doubt this will increase bloat either, or make the code less maintainable.
So seems like a good feature? I would be OK with it being the default behaviour because I can use the icons/tabs on the bottom (double tap “posts”) to explicitely jump to the community list when I want that. That’s how I already use it anyway.
Thank you for this amazing app.
Thanks! And same, it’s never been an issue for me personally.
