Speaking of Nordic… When I was in college, the woman who organized the Medieval Enthusiasts club was over six feet tall, with golden hair to her hips. She would dress as a Scandinavian princess, when she wasn’t wearing armor. There were two categories of tourneys - foam weapons, or dull metal weapons and armor. She did the latter. (I wasn’t the combative sort - I was there for the costumes and the feasting.) Too bad she was already married.

At least here in Germany it’s often a gateway into far right groups. The Nazis loved Norse mythology and then there are also guys like Vark Vikernes etc.

In my experience, medieval enthusiasts are either one of the two: very calm and chill and cool dude, or some sort of nazi, but honestly, it’s mostly the former in my personal experience. actually, it’s like 98% very calm and chill dudes. i have met many great friends that way.

Watching from Scandinavia it’s pretty bizarre to see all these weirdos appropriate our culture. Like, the vikings were by all accounts not particularly racist or race minded.

They were traders and occasionally pirates who loved poetry and storytelling and fighting amongst themselves. They’d go somewhere and settle and just freely intermingle with the local culture to form hybrid cultures like Norman, Russian, etc.

Expecting racists to think is a bit hard on them honstely.

In a museum in the middle of germany is an exhibition of a shaman women from the region a few thousand years back and new studies found out she was most probably dark skinned.
But try telling that the “true germans”.

Yeah it’s kinda dependent on region and culture when it comes to Neo-Pagans, here in the US it’s a coin flip on if the Neo-Pagan is some breed of fascist or a particularly demented anti-fascist who fell into Neo-Paganism due to rejecting Christianity in some way. I am in fact the latter though I started doing it to troll Mormon missionaries since saying half crazed shit and throwing Odin into the mix tends to offset the yuppies.

I gaslit myself into fucking Neo-Paganism.
