Explanation: Sappho of Lesbos was an ancient Greek poet - and the only of the ‘classic’ great Greek poets who was a woman - whose name and origin spawned two words for female same-sex attraction! ‘Sapphic’ and ‘lesbian’, for those who are unaware.

Her poetry often addresses desire, and while due to transmission and loss of sources, there is some debate over whether she was lesbian or bisexual, it was accepted at least as far back as Roman interpretations that Sappho of Lesbos, as a person and not just a poetic persona, loved the ladies.

Leaving a gay mark on history for thousands of years, slay queen 😭🙏

must mention that she said to have an husband, Cercylas of Andros, likely a joke as that name translates to “Dick of Man”.

Imagine telling a joke that people are still falling for thousands of years later.

Some scattered mentions of her life by other authors and later treatments, but nothing contemporary.

Greek WLW from the island of Lesbos must have such an easy time getting dates. I kinda feel bad for the cishet Lesbian men, though. But hey, they probably have some awesome jokes.
