AirDrop is IMO one of the most useful and straightforward things there is on iOS. Or what do you have that is better than ”just select the things you want to send, click share and select the person near you”? No app installs no nothing, unless the person you are sending to is a total stranger, when they have to briefly allow device visiblity to anyone. Sure you can do this over the internet with many apps you both might have in common but that is totally different than sharing with WiFi speeds.

Android already had WiFi Direct, this change just brings Apple and Android into the same sharing room.

I never need to send files or data from my phone to someone else’s phone. All the files I care about are on my PC.

I’m not saying AirDrop or Quick Share are useless. I’m saying I don’t use them, but do understand they’re used, and I’m glad the support exists now.
