What exactly does this “investing” mean here? Do they essentially donate money to Trump? Do they buy American factories/companies? Do they build new factories? Do they just announce and investment and then nothing happens for a long time?

In other words, who makes the profit here? Did they rip off the Trump without him noticing or did they get ripped off and can’t do anything about it? Is “investing” another way of saying “ASiAnS BuY MuRIcaN ComPnAIEs!!!1!” that is more popular with the maga crowd?

All the reports I’ve seen about this just regurgitate the government speech and give no useful details what’s really going on here.

I’d say we should boycott Toyota, but their 220mi range piece of shit EV with a 9” display for 45k$ pretty much does them in without trying.

I still haven’t gotten over hearing that recording of people who were about to die because they couldn’t use the brakes in their Toyota.

Seems I was right to not forget.

Good Lord I’ve seen the headlines but that photo paints one hell of a picture.

Fair call, but it’s worth adding he is still the chairman and part of the Toyoda dynasty and clearly representing the brand.

This is true. I more have a bone to pick with intentionally misleading headlines. It sounds way more punishing for it to be the CEO, but that’s just not true. The author didn’t need to lie to get the point across.

You’d only be giving them money if it’s leased through a Toyota dealership or financed through Toyota’s loan department.

I have a RAV4 that I financed through the dealer when I bought it, but I refinanced that bitch after like 2 months. The interest rate was unbelievably high. Glad to know I’m not giving any more money to fascist bullshit.

Fuck fuck fuck. I was looking for a reliable single cab truck with 4wd and diff locks to convert into a camper. A 90s J70 seemed like a perfect option, but even though I wouldn’t be giving toyota any money this feels wrong now… I wonder what other options even are there; L200 is too small for a camper, anything land rover is so unreliable I won’t dare go overlanding, and good luck finding parts for older american trucks over here (besides, Ford&GM bowed to fascists all the same)

Honest question: Assume that I do in fact need a car. I’ve been driving Toyota since college on account of it hitting pretty much the sweet spot of affordability and reliability. Is there another car company that hits around that same realm that is less morally compromised?

For a new vehicle probably Mazda or Honda.

I’d love to give Ford a chance but the post 2020 reliability has not looked great. I had 07 Escape for 15 years that was an absolute work horse.

I don’t think there are any ‘good’ car companies, due to extreme size they are all fuvkheads one way or another, often in many ways

There was that investigation into privacy before that showed that literally every company they tested failed horribly. It might literally just be ‘they all suck horribly’.
