I remember having similar fantasies during the W. Bush administration. “Surely, when Democrats get into power these egregious war criminals will face justice in the courts!”
Being a lesser evil voter in this country is probably the logical choice, but it is also signing up for a lifetime supply of “fell for it again” awards.
Your comparison to the brownshirts is correct- most rank and file brownshirts were never prosecuted.
We have to settle for the “lesser evil” because we wait until the final contest to finally make a choice.
There is a plenitude of opportunities to make our voices heard before the Tuesday after the first Monday every four years. And to better forge our future to be more than the “lesser of two evils”.
The problem isn’t that we have too much participation, it’s that we have too little. This wouldn’t change if we used a different method of participation. Be it peaceful protest, violent revolution, or some other option. It requires that a population be involved in decision making of their own future. Far more often then once every few years.
