Yesterday it was the flag of the Hong Kong pro-democracy movement, before that it was Palestine, before that it was Tibet, before that it was Ukraine.

It’s not directed against any one country, government or political party. It is against authoritarianism wherever it occurs and all it’s forms.

My years on Reddit had me wishing for a moment that there was some equivalent of gold I could do to spotlight this post, but then I remembered I could just donate to the Piefed project instead.

It’s not much, but just wanted to say thanks for being you!

You could post the post you intend to spotlight into other communities so it reach more people. Either Crosspost or take a screenshot.

Why? Don’t you think it might turn many people off? This sends the message like “we are aware of policitcs on PieFed and we have strong opinions on a lot of topics here. You can speak, we let you speak. This site is all about politics”.

And it might end up being all about politics just like you wish. And I don’t think it’s a good idea. I think it’s better to create a chill space for people. Allowing politics disucssion of course, but this right here and what you just said sends “politics-first” kind of vibes.

This place is based on politics. You are on a decentralised, open-source space with mamy people being various kinds of left.

Without politics this place will probably become hollow and eventually die.

People tend to ignore politics in their life, while the system we live in destroys us. It is a good idea to talk about politics (and do stuff about it).

Haha no that’s boomer sensibility shit. Anti-authoritarianism is always good to see, and it is fine to meld it into every day life. The authoritarian fascists will be in your every day life if you try not to care about them anyway.

If the instance being anti-authoritarian turns people off, good fucking riddance. If it makes someone feel the need to get all political and start attacking people, then good fucking riddance to them, too 🤷‍♂️

That my friend is definition of manipulative comment.

Not anti authoritarian. Politics. When a completely neutral person that doesnt care about politics, and this is actally majority of society, arrives at this site, they dont have time to think what was the reason behind all the politics symbols on the site. They just want good content.

I mean, speaking as an outside observer, it seems fine and unintrusive to me? And it doesn’t give me the impression that piefed is ‘all about politics.’

          Don’t rush.
