To some extent, Mossad literally does (or maybe did) operate as a US directed agency, but a plausibly deniable asset.
They carry out things ‘we’ want done, but won’t sully ‘our’ name with, when its too dirty, too much collateral damage. We pretend to be moral and scold them from time to time, behind closed doors its all smiles.
Lately, turns out the Israelis are both more brutal and more clever than… well basically the entire upper echelons of US tech/intel/political systems, and they managed to basically flip that equation on its head, they’ve apparently got kompromat on what, just, anyone who’s been in politics in the US for more than 10 years, at this point?
Hell, if you ask something like half of the right wingers in this country right now, they’ll tell you they’re pretty sure Mossad killed Charlie Kirk, after he told Israeli donors he wouldn’t take their money anymore, that he couldn’t keep being that pro-Israel.
