As a person who does not need to be afraid of a Sky Daddy in order to be nice to people, I take it as a personal fucking insult when religious people even suggest their credulity gives them some kind of moral edge.
That, and the reason it’s happening to a larger extent in the US than elsewhere is that the US is pretty much the only place where the prosperity gospel has any significance.
Wonder how much of it is religion showing its true colors and people realizing it’s about control and money, not about being a good person.
