Six weeks ago, I was elected to Congress. I’m still waiting to be sworn in.
House Speaker Mike Johnson’s recess of the U.S. House of Representatives during a time of grave national crises is shockingly irresponsible. House Republicans have been on vacation for six weeks while our economy crumbles, federal workers go without paychecks, health care premiums skyrocket and funding for food stamps dwindles. This is negligent and cruel.
Kind of stupid to say something so egregious is the “least bad”.

One year from now nobody is going to remember this because it is literally the least bad of thing they’ve been doing.
No-one will remember the longest US Govt. shutdown, ever? The one that dethroned the previous record, which was set during checks notes oh, right, Trump’s previous go at stuffing his pockets with tax dollars.
I wouldn’t be so sure of that. When people start going hungry, people start getting angry. Anthropology has demonstrated this more times than almost anything else. If this keeps up, something “interesting” will happen, as the old curse goes.
Obviously the shutdown was not the thing I was referring to.
