I just bought an older guitar with a maple neck and fretboard. It is some dark residue running along the edge of the fretboard on both sides. How to I get rid of this?
Naptha and a soft rag
just use a rag
I’m not a luthier (although there is a com for that that you may want to cross post to), but I believe maple necks can come in finished or raw varieties. Do you know which this one is?
The fretboard is unfinished
then you could try 0000 steel wool
if you treat maple like rosewood you’re gonna have a bad time.
an unfinished maple neck with frets installed doesn’t sound right at all.
Shows what you know I guess
if it doesn’t affect playing I wouldn’t even bother messing with it and depending on the price I’d first take a better pic and head over to [email protected] or just throw solvents of increasing strength at it starting with soapy water.
I’ve always had good results cleaning up necks and finger boards with wet wipes and elbow grease.
