We have Twint in Switzerland for years now and I use it multiple times per day for everything from parking, buying eggs at the farmer in the village, public transport tickets, grocery store and even to split bills with friends. I only use my Amex, MC and Visa abroad these days.

I really hope they will work out some interoperability between Wero and Twint soon.

Looking at the website, twint is only available on android and ios too. Being cynical about it, they probably will cooperate with wero because the systems keeping people locked into the mobile operating systems of american big tech will need to work together to provide so much value that people won’t realistically opt out from running iOS or google play services on their devices.

Would that be the QR code that I see on the payment terminal when I am in Belgium? Or is that something else?

When you scan the Qr code, all data, such as beneficiary, account number, amount and / or structured communication are automatically filled in. I still recommend that you check everything visually for any errors.

ABN AMRO and ING are also planning to switch to Wero.

All major and mid-sized Dutch banks iirc already support iDEAL, which to foreigners I’d explain as basically the original Wero.

You send money to somebody through their phone number. For me, I open my bank app, go to transfers, select WERO, then enter the amount and the phone Nb. The transfer is instant

I had the chance to use it to send money to some friends, and it was very easy to use for that use case! (BTW the link to the wikipedia article is broken)
