I’m convinced an utter lack of empathy is the reason why there’s a constant 40% support of Trump.

How many times do you read stories about some Republican politician or right winger suddenly be not as horrid toward “the gays” because their kid came out? (Admittedly, that seems to happen a whole lot less now)

These people just can’t put themselves in the shoes of anyone who isn’t exactly like them.

For me it’s not even that, I’m geeedy, i want a stable, happy society because that makes for a happy life for me. I don’t want to have to deal with homeless when I walk down the street, so I want social housing and healthcare for them. I don’t want unwanted children in society, so women haveing total control over reproduction is vital.

Any modicum of reseach can show you the dangers in society when there are large levels of wealth inequality, it literally destroys society, so i want high taxation of wealth and high death taxes and legislation to restrict incomes and capital.

Any sane person looks at cars and tranportation and the deaths from pollution, noise, urban sprawl, accidents and destroying the enviorment, so i want decent cheap electric public transport and cycling infrastructure.

I know when i travel, visas and borders are fuxking annoying and i don’t want them at all. People only up and move from their family and friends if something toxic is happening , so let them, I’d want the same thing for me

I’m the anthesies of most people it seems, I was conservative when I was young, had a STEM degree but the more i read and observe the more I understand most conservative view points are mostly toxic to a livable society.

Religion should never be involved in state affairs, including ALL education, it’s pernicious, people should be horrified to see “In God we Trust” in their justice sustem but here we are.

They think empathy is the greatest sin, yet so many of them claim to be followers of Christ. The cognitive dissonance is just off the charts.

It’s really funny how much they embody the Pharisees despite claiming to follow Christ.

If these people had any media literacy they’d realize they’re exactly like the people Christ was against.

Wow I’ve speculated on right wingers lacking empathy before, but crazy to see it in a neurological study!

On the daily they had one WV resident literally saying “if we go hungry I’ll have to resort to any means necessary to eat” and I very nearly drove into a fucking pole yelling at the radio.

Like holy fucking shit, what a way to figure out that social safety nets are tools which preserve social order and not just some feel good charity. If only someone had been explaining this to you constantly for literally a fucking century.

And now consider that empathy is a learned skill. And that it requires both shitty parents & education to remain completely undeveloped. Then think about the timeline. The Great American Project To Make The People Putty In The Hands Of The Few Again is nearing fruition.
