AB-1043 “Age verification signals: software applications and online services.”

California AB 1043 signed. Mandatory os-level, device-level, app store, and even developer-required age verification for all computing devices.
Edit: altered title from “ID check” to “Age Verification check”
The fuck? Why is no one talking about this? How is this age verification being implemented?
Poorly I am sure. But maybe they will hire Sierra Games and we will get a Leisure Suit Larry age verification quiz.

No idea
California unfortunately has a long tradition of creating stupid new laws that sound “helpful” with no technical ability to allow companies to abide by it (see firearm microstamping). Probably just going to selectively use it as a way to restrict some companies that won’t allow them access to private info or something.
I just read the text of this, and it sounds to me like it only mandates a birth date or age field as opposed to full-on age/identity verification.
Still asinine, but not quite as severe as OP’s interpretation if accurate.Like the checkbox you’re 13 from the early days?
Who asked for this
Flock probably. Someone needs to be shot
What about small devices like cameras, my router, my car software?
This looks like a trap to kill all non Apple/Google devices :-/
California becomes the first state to ban Linux and FOSS I guess
Well I’ll be going offline soon
