Booleans. Change the year to 2020, or remove certain sites/results.

All the data is still there, just gotta know how to find it, kinda like an old school library at this point! If you’re going through the process of self learning and/or bettering yourself instead of just watching and repeating, you’ll know how to wade through crap already. And if you want the latter, well googles crapification isn’t a concern to you.

There is plenty of different Booleans for those situations, but there’s not many new inventions in the last 5 years.

          There is in bikes.

I didn’t really want to get into details of the particular thing that prompted this post, because then there’s going to be too many people posting suggestions they think are helpful, and that would be missing the point. Suffice it to say that I’m cobbling together pieces from YouTube, forum posts, and old Reddit threads that, IMO, I would expect to see more consolidated. In times past, I think it would be. I do think I’ll get there in the end, but it feels much harder to get everything together than it used to be.

Other than more brands and types of e-bikes? Most have existed for quite a while, just not at a consumer level.

And e-bikes are just circuits, or otherwise proprietary components. You’re gonna be following manufacturer guides, or likely videos, so use site results to specify.

A gear shift is a gear shift, a brake is a brake, a motor is a motor…. Sounds like your ignorance is the issue here. A fridge with new tech is… is still a fridge, if it has a screen, well there’s ways to diagnose a screen, and ways to test the leads between them. The information IS there.

The tech isn’t new dude, you just can’t figure out how to find the information and want it spoon fed to you, you don’t want to learn. You want stuff on a silver platter, and you’re exactly why Google has shifted this route. Wow.

Google is and has always had features to help wade through crap, the main page is what the masses “want”. Within that tool is advanced features to further help those that want different results (what you want). Can’t have your cake and eat it too mate. Learn to use the decades old advanced tools, and stop whinging.

Sounds like your ignorance is the issue her

Yes, ignorance is the issue. I don’t know how to do something, and I’m researching how. Good job. Also:

Learn to use the decades old advanced tools, and stop whinging.

You can shut the fuck up, because the stuff I’m looking at isn’t decades old. Or more accurately, has technically existed for a while, but wasn’t common until the last few years because of changes ebikes are driving.

Fine, I’ll go into details. Derailleurs suck for ebikes. They can’t really take the torque the motors can output at class III levels. I’d like to make the conversion over, and there’s a lot of pieces that go into that.

I converted a bike with a 750W Bafang kit. I changed up the derailleur, but I had trouble aligning it. I took it into a shop and they aligned it, and it actually made the problem worse. At this point, pretty clear this just isn’t the way to do things anymore.

So look for alternatives. Internally geared hub seems the way to go. Have to rebuild the whole wheel. That part is long and tedious, but Park Tool has pretty good tutorials on it. I have access to a makerspace that already has most of the tools I’d need.

Park Tool also notes that 3-cross spoke patterns are common, and most tutorials out there show that. Problem is, internal gear hubs are larger than normal and it probably can’t fit a 3-cross pattern. Have to go down to 2-cross, but still need to find a tutorial on the specifics. There’s a certain way of doing things so you get the pattern correct around the entire wheel.

Spoke count on the hub needs to match the wheel. That and the pattern determines spoke length.

So far so good. All this is doable.

The next problem is stuff directly around the hub. Specifically, gathering compatible parts. Without a horizontal gear mount on my bike, will need an adapter. Disc brake mount should be fine; just don’t make the mistake of buying a cheap gear hub with a coaster brake. Those suck and arguably shouldn’t exist.

Then there’s other parts around the hub that are needed to mount the whole thing. This is still where I have open questions, and Google and YouTube have not been helpful. Product page for the hub simply says “additional accessories needed” with little detail.

Add on the possibility of going to a belt drive. That shouldn’t be too bad. There’s an adapter plate out there for the Bafang mid drive.

Now, does this sound like I haven’t even tried doing research, or that I just want all this handed to me? No, these search tools suck. And if you haven’t even done an ebike conversion on your own before, then you can shut the fuck up.

Okay, so you’re Frankensteining something and expect there to be detailed instructions on your exact combination. That’s not gonna exist, you need to wade through your own crap! That’s ignorance and wanting stuff fed on a silver platter.

If I was changing a tv to a 3d tv, I wouldn’t expect to find exact guides and would know I would be figuring out most through technical sheets myself and through trial and error.

            restaurant manager -manager

That shouldn’t turn up no results. That poster is assuming A LOT. It also looked like a blog post and is 30% ads, what kind of source is that? The link provided by Schmidt shows that most Booleans do work on Google and is newer than your posted link as well, as well as provided by one of their engineers… so they should be taken as more knowledgeable then… a blog post to from a random person.

Because the search will turn up results that aren’t related to managers, there will absolutely be results. The only people who would assume there would be no results are people who think search engines only return proper results, and incorrectly assume Boolean are true AND, OR and NOT. When they have never been.

The issue in case you haven’t figured it out, is assuming how stuff should work and being ignorant instead of learning.

Most Booleans work on Google and have existed for decades, claiming they “don’t” or “don’t work” just means you don’t understand what the point of them has always been.

Who claimed they were? They are tools to help, they have never included all Booleans and they’ve changed over time, my link from a Google engineer even specifies that. They have never meant to be restrictive like AND, OR and NOT, where do you get this idea from?Your website is cancer FYI.

Use :before, and you’ll get no results past that time.

Lemmy.world users being the most toxic pricks while calling other sites ‘cancer’ - name a more likely duo.
