Been great. First place I’ve worked where I feel appreciated for my knowledge, as incomplete as it is. The manager went off on a diatribe about how he was originally a technician like myself, treated like crap, but felt called to change that. He went to management classes and eventually became the guy managing the arm of the company where I got hired. As a result I’m paid enough to survive, the company pays 100% of the health insurance benefits for both myself AND my wife, and I’m free to arrive whenever and leave when my work is done. My coworkers (and the company) are appreciative of the skills I’ve cobbled together over the years. It turns out I know a lot more about electronics than I thought, I just didn’t have anywhere to put all that knowledge together in a way that made sense. Now I’m doing stuff I’ve always wanted to do, stuff I’m excited to do. I keep expecting to wake up.
