China is not something we would want to lead unless there’s a regime change (maybe democratically?). They’re censoring their own people with their sophisticated firewalls, constant surveillance and oppression. I know a thing or two, because I have friends there.

Now, imagine it on a global scale, it’s going to fucking suck. China doesn’t know how to create soft power first and then exploit it down the line like the West has learned. It does shit it can get away on the first run (see Africa, networking equipment surveillance, EV survillance etc etc) and lose all goodwill.

Its people, scientists, and engineers have done an exceptional job despite the authoritarian government, imagine what they could do with a less hostile government.

They have more work to do to be a role model, yes, and the great firewall is a PITA and is used for (fake news) propaganda as well as for protecting its national interest and identity. They do seem to have lost significant focus under Xi, and I doubt it will change for the better under his leadership.

Even if China were to become a leader in soft power and a role model in the future, systems don’t tend to be transplanted wholesale.
