They have expenses for maintenance, property taxes, insurance, etc. if you could buy a house presumably you would so as to avoid having to pay for a landlord to get his cut. But renters usually can’t buy, so the landlord fronts the money for the house and takes on various risks. There is, of course, a change for them doin that. That’s the only way renters can get housing, unless governments just give people stuff for free.
