Sure it prevents critical thinking, but I think the toxicity present really depends on the religion and person. For example, the LDS church is toxic and corrupt as fuck, but there are good people that are mormons. Likewise, Baptist churches typically have incredibly toxic viewpoints, but there are also plenty of nondenominational churches that help communities and have broadly loving and accepting teachings.
Boiling down all religious people to just “toxic magical thinking” is pretty narrow minded and emblematic of the exact behaviour that (I assume) you find so toxic in religious groups.
I’m saying that it’s separate from whether or not they subscribe to a religion. So you pointing out that there are good and bad LDS members means literally nothing in the context of the larger discussion.
