Perhaps I am lending too much grace to the other commenter, but, they could mean that in a less derogatory sense, ie, you yourself are a complex thing and process, and if you view yourself as a thing that needs regular upkeep and maintenance, well then you can learn how to do many of those things yourself, as opposed to… needing to go to a proverbial mechanic all the time.
My stance on ‘relationships’ has always been that anyone who needs a partner… well, they’re not ready for one.
You’ve got to be a stable and functional person yourself, by yourself, and find another such person, if you want a decent chance of the two of you having a stable and functional relationship.
