I’ve been using graphene for a while now, and all of my important files are backed up on my home server, but I don’t have a complete backup of all my apps and data.
Solutions like Neo Backup require root.
Is there a good phone backup solution for graphene users?
I haven’t found one yet. I’m manually exporting settings from all the apps I have where that feature is available, and backing them up on my Nextcloud server.
I just wish Seedvault worked properly.
Lots of apps let you export their settings. I back those up.
But in general it’s better to consider your phone as ephemeral as possible. Keep your phone minimal and backup photos etc separately with a dedicated tool.
I have individual backup systems for photos, documents, notes, 2FA, and a couple others like podcasts, etc. It’s a lot to monitor and keep track of. A solution that backs up apps and settings would streamline the entire process, and provide a solution for apps that don’t have an individual backup setting.
Loss or destruction of the device would not be catastrophic, but it would be a big hassle that seems fairly easy to avoid, if there were such a solution.
Yup. Unfortunately it’s basically impossible to actually do without root.
I know the GOS devs have said that a proper backup system is on the roadmap, but they have much bigger problems to solve first.
All of this is why I try and keep my phone ephemeral - lack of backups. So don’t rely on it because you can’t.
This is exactly how I do it. Everything important like photos and messages are backed up to my homeserver.
All I do when switching phones is make an export of my instled apps, that’s it.
I used to hop around a bunch of different custom roms back in the day a lot, so I very quickly got used to losing all my data.
