    Oh, man.

    I’d be mortified.

    The worst I ever did was handing in a paper with a soda stain on it because I had a bottle crack in my bag and didn’t have time to reprint it before class.

    If I were the prof, I’d own it and every class there after I would have “Professor whats his n*ts” (because somebody would get offended) on the board. I wouldn’t call the student out at all. And I wouldn’t say anything about it.

    When I was at uni (UK) we would never put our names on assignments. Everything was done by student number (I think the official term was something like “matriculation ID”).

    i.e. in this instance the professor wouldn’t know whose paper this was

      In Germany, we put both name and MNr (Matrikelnummer) on everything. As a tutor, I once had 2 students with the same first and last name and they happened to have my first name which confused me even more

      We mainly had non-summative assignments, so those had names on. Exams were all done by student-number, with a fold-down section where you wrote and signed your name.
